The stalks need quite a bit of help feeding into the auger shaft, it is recommended that you use a pusher stick and to keep fingers away from the auger when pushing the stalks down. Grinds stalks to a to a fine powder mixed with some stringy thread from the stalks. You could sift the powder from the threads if only the powder is wanted.
